Nothing says ‘Happy Weekend’ like a little bit of love from the animals. During my time in London, my friend and I visited London Zoo. Both of us adore animals and therefore thought it would be a great day trip.
We caught a taxi from Regent’s Park station saving us the walk. The Zoo was a great opportunity to get up close to the animals with many enclosures and live shows to take part in. Our first encounter was with the penguins, we sat in for the Penguin Beach Talk which runs daily at 11:30am. An entertaining bunch, the penguins put on a great performance.
Using the London Zoo map, we made our way around the enclosures coming across familiar favourites such as Gorillas, Giraffes and Otters. With over 750 different species, we were introduced to many exotic animals such as the Pygmy Hippo, Okapis and the Galapagos Tortoise. Unfortunately, my favourite big cat, the Lion, was out of sight sleeping. I was taken by surprise by how close we managed to get to the Giraffes, it was breathtaking. Standing on a raised observation deck, one Giraffe approached us, we could have touched it’s head!
Overall London Zoo was a wonderful experience. Maintained by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), the Zoo passionately promotes worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats.
